I talk a little about this in another thread but I think this deserves a new thread.
What I'm trying to say is all LL&P talked about is this digester but was quiet about two other generators that have nothing to do with the digester. From talking to other residents they had no idea that LL&P was going to purchase and install these. Also what I really can't believe that LL&P when thru with the purchase of these very expensive combustion generators that run on natural gas when the gas company cannot provide gas during the winter months! The supply line isn't large enough to supply all the homes for heat and fuel for the generators. In the board minuets of LL&P an engineer warned and confirmed the lack of fuel before the purchase and still you purchased them!!!! How long is the payback when they can be ran for only half the year? This is ridiculous. I was told they can run on diesel but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that every minute they run on diesel LL&P would be loosing money! What do you have say about that?
And another thing, Greg Pierce under the boards control keeps telling residents that they will be able to produce all the power needs of the city if there is a disaster and power goes out. I personally think the is a crock of you know what because first off the city uses 9 to 13 Megawatts of power at any given time. The two combustion generators combined only produce at full capacity 7.5 megawatt so then the biodigester would have to produce a minimum of 1.5 megawatt but is will only produce @ .85 megg. That won't even meet our minimum needs, unless you are planning on a huge expansion of this one of king digester. What is your explanation for that?
Another thing is how are you going to start the combustion generators when the power is out when it will takes two electrical motors, one is 300 hp. and the other one is 100 or 150 hp. That would take 300 Kilowatts or more of electrical power to even start them? That is a very large portable generator that you don't own.
Also, why did you authorize the start of construction for the two combustion generators without the proper permits? LL&P project was shut down from July until around the end of November by the DEQ. I called the Grand Rapids office of and they confirmed it. This is a direct violation of the planning commission, which states that you must have all permits before any construction take place, so that puts the LL&P's board in violation of the City of Lowell's charter.
Now this is the interesting part, the city charter states:
Under Section 16.1. "Members appointed shall serve their respective terms unless removed by the Council under the provisions of Section 4.6 and 4.7 of this Charter"
"Section 4.7. - Removals from Office"
"(b) For any act constituting a violation of this Charter"
Anybody can get on the city's web site, here's the link:
