I know that a few people (Britelite and Mr. Canfield) on here are very impressed with not only the general manager of LL&P but also the city manager. They have supposedly saved Lowell residents and rate payers, I don't know, a million dollars combined (sorry I don't have the exact number and I don't want to lie).
Very impressive but I have a simple idea that they either haven't thought of or they just don't want to do. Why not consolidate LL&P and Lowell City Hall? Why are we paying staffing in two different locations that are doing the same thing for the same residents/rate payers? The Lowell City staff already does the billing for taxes, and water and wasted water. Why couldn't they also do the electric? The city already has the software that can do water and sewer and I'm sure it can also do electric . And the same person that does the meter reads for water can do the electric. I have seen them both reading meters my house at the same time. Why pay twice for the same thing. You could move one or two of the office workers at LL&P over to city hall to help with the extra billing.
I personally would like them to keep Gail from LL&P and shift her over to city hall. She is always so friendly when I stop into LL&P to pay my bills or when I have any questions. Thank you Gail.
Both city hall and LL&P are ultimately controlled by the city council so why not put them under the same roof. Then you can eliminate some of the 6 managers/ administration at LL&P and sell the administration building for LL&P and get some tax revenue from it when another private company owns it.
Quite a concept, huh?
P.S.
This will save alot of money for everybody as long as the City Manager doesn't add on any more "administration fees".
Yes the public hasn't forgotten about that. It is still a tax that should have gone to the vote of the people! Lowell is not a dictatorship where the city manager is at the helm.
If I'm not mistaken doesn't it go "and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth"? Abraham Lincoln, Gettysburg Address.
Mr. Pierce and Mr. Howe you are not the people, or should I say, the taxpayers of Lowell!
