What is happening to our local city government? Will this really be the next place to live? It sounds like the city and its public works department can't agree on a fair contract. The city has sold it's cable TV department and now we are stuck with the higher prices from com cast. Now it looks like the Lowell light and power company has went out of control. Looks like we will soon be left in the dark. We will have the highest electric bills in the state. Lowell may be heading in the same direction as Detroit. What do you think?

Where do you get LL&P has the highest electric bills in the state??? HELLO! You need to do some research. You can contact any electric utility and get their rates. As a Consumers customer I would gladly trade my bill with one for the same usage as LL&P. Remember, rates and purchased power are NOT the same. Rates are stable unless increased by the MPSC or whatever local government the company is owned by. Purchased power fluctuates and is directly tied to demand. Just like gas at the pumps, it goes up and down.

Sorry. I have to agree with Wildwilley. Just a few months ago I realized how much my bill had gone up in cost. Knowing I was not using much electricity at the time and having been told our rates have NOT gone up, I was mystified. I then realized it was the 23% surcharge!! Up from 3-4% just 2 years ago. I'm sure many “happy” customers have no idea of that as I had not because I believed the LL&P admonition that our rates are NOT going up. True. the rates have not but the overall cost has skyroceted!! I feel we've been DECEIVED! This seems to be the type of spin that has the entire community reeling. Let's get HONEST! I understand that because of this horrendous surcharge that now our "rates" (the full cost of the bill) is pretty comparable to Consumers. This seems to be the actual TRUTH.

Brightlight have you actually seen the increase that us Lowell Light and Power customers have been paying? It is ridiculous. Now I don't know the difference between rates and purchased power (I thought everybody just purchased their power) but what I do know is my actual bill has gone through the roof. In the last couple years my bill has just about doubled. What is the difference between a rate, purchased power and surcharge? The difference is it doesn't matter, I am paying more for electricity, a lot more!
